June 14, 2006. Going back. Orillia - Fenelon Falls - Bobcaygeon - Toronto. This was our last full day on the road. We were about 120km north of Toronto and wanted to make a curve seeing couple of more towns on out way back. We went through Fenelon Falls, Bobcaygeon and Lindsay.Fenelon Falls does have waterfalls but it's nothing like what we saw in Grey county two days before.
Just several minutes walk from the street with all local tourist attractions, a quiet rural life begins.
Fenelon Museum was closed, I think they should have some antuquities there.
Fenelon Falls stands as a gateway from Cameron Lake to Sturgeon Lake. This is Cameron Lake:
Everywhere where we saw water, it was amazing. I haven't seen such a clean fresh water for a long time.
Ah, this is the street where we parked. This and the one going from it (to the left, along the locks, not seen here) are packed with boutiques and restaurants.
Yet smaller and quieter was Bobcaygeon that stands between Sturgeon Lake and Pigeon Lake. Everything seemed sleeping with the exception of the antiquities and souvenirs shop on the central Market Square where we parked.
We have found a bench on the lake (I am not sure which one of the two lakeswas that), where we sat eating our simple lunch. The quietness reminded me my summer vacations in childhood when I went to remote places where cars driving by on the street are so rare that you could play right there on the street safely.
And then was a long drive back to Toronto.
We didn't have any hotels on our mind. We thought we may try the same Days Inn in Mississauga, but then I recalled another what I saw on Expedia when looking for our first reservation. That was Stay Inn on Evans Avenue, I think this neighbourhood is called Etobicoke or it is south from it. The hotel was excellent (in the sense of what can you get for about $100), much better than Days Inn and for the same price. I would recommend it to anyone. They have free shuttle service to and from the airport, though we did not need it. There was nothing near the hotel, so we took a walk to the Queensway where we found many eateries and as we didn't want to bet on "Old American Hamburger", we went to Burger King that had to be more predictable (we have that in Germany too). The hotel is located near the intersection of Highway 427 and Gardiner Expressway. My wife wanted to take a photo of the highway ramp in the sunset.
Across the hotel - residential area.
June 15, 2006. The last day in Toronto. We spent couple of hours in the park that runs along the Lake Shore Boulevard and then went to the airport. There we discovered that our flight was, just like when flying from Frankfurt, about three hours late. Had we knew this before!
